Coast Guard no longer arranges assistance for non-emergency cases
In August 2020, the Coast Guard stopped organizing assistance in non-emergency cases. From now on, boaters are responsible for organizing their own assistance in cases where there is no emergency or urgency. These are cases where there is no acute danger to those on board or the vessel itself, such as engine trouble or a tow to a port, according to the Coast Guard. The Coast Guard thus keeps its hands free for incidents that do have an urgent nature.
