Pondweed and weed nuisance on Marker Lake

Nuisance weed (July 1, 2021)

For about 10 years, water sports enthusiasts have complained about nuisance from weed on the Markermeer and Randmeren lakes in particular. After one year of heavy nuisance in 2019, in the 2020 water sports season the nuisance was suddenly not so bad. Fortunately, almost no ships ran into trouble. Now that the summer of 2021 is slowly progressing, it is starting to become clear how this season is going.

Markermeer and Gouwzee

For several weeks now it has become clear that in 2021 the nuisance on the Markermeer and Gouwzee is so far concentrated mainly between Edam and Hoorn. Classical hotspots north of Marken and on the Gouwzee are still not too bad. Also between Edam and Volendam the nuisance is not so bad.

IJmeer

On the IJmeer this season, very little fontainweed was found.

Gooimeer

On Lake Gooi the nuisance is less than previous years, but especially on the north side, near the high-speed near Almere and around De Schelp, the nuisance is significant though.
